We push ourselves to stay awake despite being exhausted much too often by staying up late, getting up early, and doing so. We can decide to prioritise finishing more work or working out in place of getting enough sleep. However, if we want to heal ourselves, this probably isn't the best course of action. I was healing from significant digestive health issues while sleeping 12 hours a day (and was still exhausted when I was awake). Sleep is mostly responsible for my capacity for self-healing.


3. Self-heal by taking deeper breaths

Our sympathetic, "fight-or-flight" system has probably been active for some time if we've been dealing with stress, trauma, or physical health problems. The parasympathetic nervous system, which is mostly in charge of calming down our fight or flight reaction and assisting us in returning to a less stressful state, must be activated in order to moderate our sympathetic response.


Controlled, deep breathing is one of the simplest ways to trigger the parasympathetic nervous system. For instance, it has been demonstrated that SKY breathing, which cycles between slow breathing (2-4 breaths per minute) and fast breathing (30 breaths per minute), followed by three long "Om"s or a long vibrating exhalation, reduces anxiety.
